this brief, while for a friend, gave me some more insight into designer client relations and how to successfully communicate and understand a clients needs and ideas. the discussions i had with tom about what he wanted, and the ideas that i had in my head, were drasctically different to what he actually wanted. it is clear that he didnt really know what he wanted until he saw it being that, in my opinion, the initial ideas were much closer to the sorts of logos he described he wanted. but the final outcome and visual aids he proviuded me were not in line with his original description. this, however, is irrellevant because in the end it is about generating quality that the client likes. for what he wants to use the logo for i can see the final outcome working well. and i was able to explore some different styles that i had not really engaged in that much before.
the back and forth was minimal and i was able to successfully understand his needs will little difficulty. this then enabled me to successfully translate those ideas into a design outcome that the client was pleased with.
the development and design of the final outcome only took a day and a half of on/off work and so was a good way for me to test my ability to provide a quick turn around for the client. this is some thing that i ahve been developing since second year and i have definitely improved.
because it is for a friend and nothing too serious i didnt push my asymetric view that one of the other logos might have been more suitable. the client knew what he wanted when he saw it and i was able to provide that to him in a short time period which is something that i am happy with.
overall i think the brief was a success and im happy with the outcome and the knowledge ive gained from it.
