OUGD603. Extended Practice. Goodtype the Book Vol.1 Competition Brief. Brief

i was put onto a competition brief for the type group 'GoodType' who have a showcase on instagram @ https://instagram.com/goodtype/

since is it is based around hand rendered type it is something that i am very interested in.



To our lovers of letters: You asked for a book and we're going to deliver, but we need your helping hand to make it possible. We're in the early stages of curating the first of its kind Goodtype Book, and are opening up the submissions to our 160K+ community. 

WHAT: We are seeking NEW unpublished submissions of any style of lettering, typography, hand lettering, calligraphy, cursive, or handwriting. We kindly ask for no explicit submissions, so keep it clean folks. Need inspiration? Check out our instagram feed: @goodtype 
  • Must submit 2 photos: 1 process shot, 1 final shot
  • Dimensions: entirely up to you
  • Resolution: 300 DPI
  • Color OR black and white
  • Should the final shot be vectorized? That's up to you, too.
  • Format: PDF, TIFF, EPS
  • One submission per person or persons (if you are collaborating)
  • You MUST own the work. Please no imitators.
  • Please do not sign your work or add a logo to your work. If selected, you will be properly credited.
  • Submissions must NOT be previously published (via social media or anywhere else). We are seeking NEW content exclusive to the book.
WHO: Artists, designers, letterers, hand letterers, typographers, calligraphers, muralists, design firms, collaborators, and the like.
HOW: E-mail your submission with both shots to contact@lovegoodtype.com.
  • The subject line or message box must contain the following: "Book Submission, Your full name and website(s) if applicable." 
  • If your submission exceeds 25mb, please send via hightail.com or westransfer.com and address it to contact@lovegoodtype.com. Again, the subject line or message box must contain: "Book Submission, Your full name and website(s) if applicable."
  • Any submissions that do not meet these guidelines will not be considered.
WHEN: Deadline April 1st, 2015
This is only an invitation for submissions. It does not guarantee a selection.  If your submission is accepted, congratulations! In exchange, you will receive one contributors copy of "Goodtype The Book vol. 1" and a handwritten thank you from the founder of Goodtype.

BRIEF TITLE: GOODTYPE: THE BOOK VOL. 1 COMPETITION BRIEF

Brief:
The client is in demand of an original and never before seen or released typographic piece of the designer’s design and production. The word, style, format, and production are all up to the designer to choose and the client asks only that no profanity be used.
Background:
GoodType is an online showcasing collective that run on platforms such as twitter and instagram, along with their website. They are in the process of producing a publication called ‘The Book Volume 1’ in which a number of typographic studies will be included. The competition, if won, will provide the designer with the inclusion of their submitted piece in the book.
Considerations:
  • What word the designer will use
  • What typographic/calligraphic style the designer will produce
  • What tools the designer will use to produce said piece
  • How the might word and style relate to one another
Mandatory Requirements:
  1. One final typographic piece never posted or featured anywhere before
  2. The submission of one process shot and one final shot
Target Audience:
  • Those interested in typography and lettering
  • The producers of the GoodType book
·                         Those fans of goodtype on their various platforms
Tone of Voice:
  • Relative to the word and typographic style
Deliverables:
  • One process shot
  • One final outcome shot
