Module Code:
OUGD603
Module Title:
Extended Practice
Learning Outcomes:

BRIEF TITLE: THE METHOD: DESIGN PUBLICATION

Brief:
Having produced and refined your research methodology, you must consider yourself as a designer and a creative. You must reflect and observe on your process and style and consider how these work in line/feed your research methodology and vice versa. The brief asks that you, as a designer, consider and utilise these important factors that you have developed to produce a design publication. You must select a topic of research, apply your methodology to it, then, using your own design styles and processes, you must design and produce a publication in line with/communicating and categorising the research you have gathered. The design decisions and production methods will be dictated by the research topic you embark on and the design processes you pertain to.
Background:
You by now will have had a number of sessions with Ben from Ditto Press. In these sessions you will have developed and refined a working research methodology suited and personalised to you and your design process/style. This methodology should be transferrable across topics and contexts and should represent you as a designer/individual.
Considerations:
  • What topic of research will be chosen
  • How the methodology will be applied to that topic
  • How you will reflect upon and refine your research in order to dictate the content of your publication
  • How your design style and process will work in line with the topic in order to produce a working publication
  • What design and production methods will be utilised
Mandatory Requirements:
  1. The use of your research methodology on a chosen topic
  2. The use of your design process in designing and producing a publication
Target Audience:
  • Relevant to the topic of research
  • Relevant to creative in line with your design style and process
Tone of Voice:
  • Professional and creative
  • In line with your topic and research
  • In line with your style and process
Deliverables:
  • Primary and secondary research into the chosen topic with evidence of the application of your methodology
  • Evidence of the application of your design process in producing the publication
  • The final publication itself
