as i know the band and have seen them a number of times and know their style i decided to get straight into the designing as i had some ideas that i wanted to explore.
i started by doing some initial sketches from ideas id begun to develop mentally.
i then went on to develop these ideas digitally in illustrator.
this idea was an evolution of the original sketch with the written element included in the design. at first i thought this design could work but after some development and extension of ideas i began to notice more that i hadnt before.
i tried using the extrude and bevel tool to dd a 3d aspect to the design, i also tried simplifying the design visually and type wise (as seen in the top right in the below pic.), yet i still saw the same thing. i felt like the curved aesthetic and sweeping motion of the K was too similar to a sports brand logo.
i spent a little more time playing around with the design before moving onto other designs.
i proceeded by exploring some designs that were coser to the original, based around the tilted cube.
i attempted to both minimalise and accentuate certain aspects of the designs but i didnt really like any of them. the top right i thought had the best potential for its minimal aesthetic and organic simplicity. it also held ties noticeable enough to the old logo to maintain the existing recognition.
from this i chose the final outcome which can be found on a separate post on my extended practice blog
