OUGD603. Extended Practice. ROYAL ALBERT BEER MAT COMPETITION. Development

since the brief was free reign and would be a quick turn around i decided to do 4 designs to enter. i began by making sized circles to fit my designs within.

i then printed the template off and began to design the entries.

i have been working on developing and perfecting this pattern as a personal project for most of the year and really enjoy doing it. it is produced as a single line (minus the detached circles obviously) and works because it is the visual embodiment on the stroke my hand makes when forced to remain attached to the pen to the sheet.

this is the view from our window in college and is a view that i really like both geometrically and aesthetically. since it is a view that i have spent long time looking at and being that it was infront of me i decided to do an observational outline.

i like designing characters and thought that the circle basis of the mat would contain an interesting and quirky characters face and so i developed this design

i also thought it would be appropriate for me to design a quick typographic piece and i remembered this beer based pun from times in my local pub and so thought it might be something to engage all the audience and customers of the pub

i went on to colour and finalise the designs in illsutrator, this can be seen on a separate post under the same title with outcome instead.
