OUGD603. Extended Practice. BORROWDALE MUSIC CD CASE DESIGN. Development

the client began by send me over the relevant information he wanted included on the design -

here are the pics, 1 is for the front, 2 for the inside, 3 for behind the cd and 4 for the back.

Could you have 'Borrowdale' and then underneath 'Blind In Belchford'. For the inside 'Matthew Borrowdale', '33324047', 'Music Production' and 'Leeds Beckett University. Finally on the back, which is the track listing '1. Through the Country', '2. All We Know', '3. Views From Above' '4. Never Enough' and '5. No Voice'.

having obtained the relevant content it was then a case of me setting up an indesign file that would fit the brief.

i researched CD case dimensions and set up the doccument

i then began to apply the imagery and make the font decisions.

because i have worked with borrowdale before in second year and because i used the font 'coolvetica' i deicded that this would maintain continuity and relevance and so used it again. i remembered about not using more than two or three fonts in a design and becvause this is a small one i decided to sticvk with a maximum of two and so to make a font separation which would show the separation between the name and title and the information text i used akzidenz grotesk as the copy font for the track names and back information.

having produced the layout i then went on to do a test print. having based my measurements on a guide that i had found on the internet that seemed legitimate i thought it would be a simple test print then final print. when i went to crop and apply the test to a case it turned out not to be the right size at all

because of this i was forced to measure by hand the correct specifications which was a better way of doing it because it meant that the designs would then definitely fit. i did some re measuring and reworked the indesign doccument set up to fit the dimensions of the case correctly.

this was successful and so i printed the final outcome on some nicer stock. i then cropped and folded the final prints and applied them to the finished product. the outcome can be found on a spearate post on my blog.
