i begun by writing a formal brief:

BA (Hons.) GRAPHIC DESIGN
Level
6
Module Code:
OUGD603
Module Title:
Extended Practice
Learning Outcomes:

BRIEF TITLE: B.O.G.S.A.T. LOGO AND PROMOTIONAL EMPHEMERA

Brief:
The client is in need of a logo and the design of a variety of promotional material for a new socio-political discussion/debate forum currently in effect in the Leeds area. B.O.G.S.A.T. (bunch of guys sat around talking) aims to attract a larger and more diverse group of attendees to the informal discussion events they currently hold. Since the events are centred on contemporary topics, and are aimed foremost at students, there is a need for a modern, recognisable, and professional brand logo and extended identity.
Background:
B.O.G.S.A.T. (bunch of guys sat around talking) has held upwards of 10 meetings each centred on a different democratically voted upon topic of discussion. Members are invited to attend the informal and relaxed events, where food and beverages can be expected, to discuss and present their opinions, debate each others stances and views, and to ultimately attempt to come to some sort of agreement regarding the topic of discussion. The events are mainly student based, however, anyone is welcome. The topics are usually socially or politically centred, yet conversation and links to other topics often steer the discussions direction into new and unexpected areas.
Considerations:
  • How the designer will embody the concept of a youth based political discussion forum
  • How the brand will appear to the usual community/audience
  • How the brand will appear to those outside of the usual community
  • How the brand aesthetics might aim to remain neutral with regards to U.K political parties’ brand identities.
Mandatory Requirements:
  1. The design of one final logo
  2. The design of requested promotional material by the client
Target Audience:
  • Students interested in society and politics or who would like to learn about such
  • Students interested in social discussion and peer development
  • Those interested in the above who are not students
Tone of Voice:
  • Professional and impacting
  • Political and strong
  • Youthful and modern
Deliverables:
  • See mandatory requirements
