OUGD603. Extended Practice. BAGD Yearbook Design Brief. Brief.

we were introduced by amber and danny to the new brief to design the concept and product for the 1215 yearbook graphic design. amber explained the basic parameters to us which inlcuded considerations, physical outcomes, and connection to the end of year show. its an optional brief and at first i didnt have a group and so wasnt bothered about it. however, having jumped in on jordans and danielles talks about their plans i started giving input and then we decide3d that i could be a part of their group. we spent a bit of time talking about what sorts of things should be included and then had a look at some past examples of yearbooks. we then accepted leo as another member to the group.

i went on to write a formal brief for the project:

BRIEF TITLE: BAGD 1215 YEARBOOK DESIGN BRIEF

Brief:
Since the class of 1215 is nearing the end of their final year and so graduation, there is a need for a yearbook to be designed in order to showcase and promote the work of the students, along with promoting the course and college to prospective students and professionals around the country and world.
Background:
The BAGD course at LCA is a well-respected and well-recognised course that has, for a long time, been at the forefront of Graphic Design education. The alumni are impressive and recognised and the course itself has been considerably developed and refined, serving the students with a quality and well-structured education into the discipline. Since the class is soon graduating there is a need for a yearbook to showcase the work produced, to advertise the students and their talents, to promote the course, and document the progression. The yearbook concept will also be linked to the end of year show, which will act as an exhibition of work produced by the class.
Considerations:
  • How the designer will embody and encompass the class, their collective ethos and attitude, and the course and its quality.
  • How the yearbook will be promoted and work in line with the end of year show
  • How the yearbook will appear physically and what design considerations will be applied
Mandatory Requirements:
  1. Research and development into a working and applicable concept
  2. The design and production of the actual yearbook
  3. Concept and proposal for the end of year show linked to the yearbook
Target Audience:
