OUGD603. Extended Practice. Wall Mural for Level 6 Classroom. Evaluation.

this brief has definitely marked a turning point for the progression of my typographic and calligraphic abilities. i have been progressing with my style and the quality/abilities of my hand for the past year and have been working towards an ability to develop and produce my type pieces onto walls and other larger settings. this brief enabled me to do so and i am very proud of the results.

i produced the entire piece free hand and only following the basic pencil sketch of the skeletal structure of the letters. this proved to me that the steadiness and confidence of my hands ability to produce near perfectly straight lines and replicate curves with near perfection has increased so much.

i really enjoyed this brief as it both gave me a chance to develop my type skills but it also allowed me to produce a piece in the college that has educated me for 4 years. in this sense i am leaving a piece of me behind. it was also a rewarding brief because i was able to produce something visually engaging and aesthetically pleasing to an otherwise barren classroom (minus the work that is up on the walls obviously).

my understanding of working typography has improved as a result of this brief, as has my type setting abilities. in particular my understanding of and ability to design type in different styles that all work together has improved considerably.

the aesthetic additions such as the pointillism and shadow work are aspects that i am also proud of and feel that adding them brought much more depth to the piece.

in consideration for improvement i would have, if starting this brief again, included another character on the left hand side to balance that out. otherwise i would not change a thing and am realy pleased with the outcome.
