OUGD603. Extended Practice. Kalyan Music Logo Re-vamp Competition. Brief.

a friends band are holding a competiton for someone to redesign their existing logo.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!
Kalyan Presents are looking to update and re-brand their logo!
We have decided to do this through a COMPETITION.
Anyone is welcome to take part and the winner will receive £100!
What were looking for;
This does not mean a complete change but more of a re-vamp.
We want the logo to still be fairly similar. With the big K and writing so everything runs in line to our branding.
However it needs to look more organic and wholesome, representing what our events are about.
Experiment, have fun and don’t hold back from getting creative!
You have full artistic freedom, whatever your style, let it shine and create the re-incarnation of the Kalyan Presents logo!

BRIEF TITLE: KALYAN LOGO RE-VAMP COMPETITION

Brief:
Kalyan are a jazz, funk, soul, dub, and more, band based in the Leeds area. They have, over the past 3 years, gained considerable following in the area and are recognised for their smooth and soulful music with a live performance edge. They have a recognisable and simple logo that is known around Leeds, however they feel that a re-vamp is needed to boost their exposure and recognition. The designer must produce a logo that is relative to the original but that extends their musical ethos and communiqué into a more modern age.
Background:
The band has been playing for at least 3 years now and has developed their musical style more and more specifically. They often play shows in the Leeds area and are known for their original and engaging style, especially at live shows. They desire a logo that works as an extension of the original and that visually represents themselves and their organic and progressive style.
Considerations:
  • How the will logo design be extended from the original
  • How the designer will maintain the use of the big ‘K’ while developing it in line with the brief and clients needs
  • What design tools might be used in order to complete this brief
Mandatory Requirements:
  1. One logo that is a developmental re-vamp of the original
  2. The inclusion of the big ‘K’
Target Audience:
  1. Audiences and lovers of the band and their music
  2. Listeners to similar music who will be targeted by the band and their music
Tone of Voice:
  •  Organic and wholesome
  • funky, jazzy, dubby, smooth
Deliverables:
  • One re-vamped logo based on the original
