OUGD603. Extended Practice. Live Art Mural: SUGAR SKULL (SGRSKL) Clothing and Jewellery Launch Night, Lamberts Yard. Introduction and Brief.

A friend of my dads in sheffield works in the steel and silver industry making bespoke jewellery. One of his clients, SugarSkull (SGRSKL) Clothing and Jewellery, had planned to have their re-brand launch night at Lamberts Yard in leeds. they were after an artist to do a live art piece at the launch night to help promote and expand their new range and new aesthetics within the brand. i was put onto them and one of the guys got in touch with me about the job.

' Hi Joe - My name is James and I work with Neil Jackson at Baroque Silver. He put me in contact as I was hoping to have a chat re a launch event my brand SGRSKL are holding next Friday (24th). We are hoping to Feature a live art piece / street art piece - at the venue - during the event. I would love to discuss what we have in mind / your take on it all.  There will be tons of exposure (press / local businesses / bloggers / customers etc - a great opportunity to showcase works and a potential collab piece on the night.  I can send you more details / more about the brand on email ?  Thanks! James '

i was immediately interested and happily accepted their offer to which they then proceeded to send me their newly released look book with the clothing and jewellery range within.

BRIEF TITLE: SGR-SKL LAUNCH NIGHT LIVE ART MURAL
Brief:
The client is in need of an artist who is available to perform and produce a live art mural at the launch night of their re-brand and new clothing and jewellery range. The client desires a piece to be produced on the night, in front of their audience, that works in line with their new brand and clothing aesthetics. They want the artist to extend their designs in order to engage the audience and add another element to their launch.
Background:
SugarSkull (SGR-SKL) Clothing and Jewellery are a Sheffield based company that have been operating for around 3-4 years. They recently had a full company rebrand which works to communicate and extend their ideology and business aims. They, in line with the rebrand, have developed and produced an entirely new range of clothing and jewellery for a spring/summer release and so would require the artist to produce works in line with their produced aesthetics, working to maintain yet extend the designs onto the canvas.
Considerations:
  • How the live piece can both embody and extend their range
  • What aesthetic/artistic techniques can be applied to extend the piece while still working in line with their range
  • What materials will likely be required, being that the surface will be a large canvas mounted to wood board
  • How the piece can be made to work over a long period of time and engage a live audience while still maintaining the required aesthetic contributions
Mandatory Requirements:
  1. The piece must work in line with the brand aesthetics and new range
  2. The piece must be produced over at least 3 hours due to the length of the event
  3. The piece must be produced in only black and white (extended to a monochromatic scheme if necessary)
Target Audience:
  1. Those interested in male fashion and jewellery
  2. Customers of the SGR-SKL range
  3. Friends and family of the clients
Tone of Voice:
  • Professional / Modern
  • Minimal / Sleek
Deliverables:
  • one live art piece plus developmental work.
