STATEMENT OF INTENT.
JOE HARRISON.
Having read, and further deconstructed the OUGD603 module
information I gained a basic understanding of the aims, intents and learning
objectives of the module. I intend to use the module, and its guidelines, to
both better my design skills and capabilities and develop my understanding of
the professional side of graphic design in line with multi-job tasking.
The subjects involved in my briefs have been well considered
and all relate to personal interests of mine. Some are things I am very
familiar with and were chosen to increase my knowledge and understanding and
better the skills I am strongest at. Some are things relatable to other
interests I have but are, themselves, subjects I know little about. These were
chosen, both to appease a desire to learn about such matters, and to broaden my
knowledge of different subjects in line with my design process.
The research I aim to gather, specifically, will be dictated
by each individual brief; however, I intend to gather a broad range of primary
and secondary research to inform each project. Primary research will likely
take the form of questionnaires, interviews and field research. This will
enable me to gather info from different audiences and locations and with less
of a bias. I will gather secondary research, both academic and general, from
books, journals, blogs, websites, leaflets, talks and events. This range should
provide me with intellectual standpoints, academic theories, public points of
view, a general consensus and simple overviews. This way I am considering a
multitude of stances and will, hopefully, avoid bias (unless appropriate).
The time scales taken for the progression of each project
will also be dictated by each brief and its requirements. Most briefs are
planned to take from 2 – 6 weeks depending on the nature and themes of the
brief. I intend to produce a time scaled calendar to plan the progression of
each brief in line with the others and in real time. This will allow me to work
on multiple briefs efficiently and appropriately and should help me avoid
briefs becoming unmanageable.
In order to get the most out of my practical development I
have written my briefs in line with the sorts of subjects I want to learn
about, and to entail design/production processes I want to learn or improve on.
I intend to better my hand rendered abilities and work on my understanding and
familiarity with the adobe suite. I aim become familiar with animation, along
with a number of other processes I currently don’t know about. Through my
practical development, I also aim to encompass a greater professionalism in my
outcomes, considering the finishing aspects more so.
Once again, the briefs, themselves, will determine the
context to which the themes and outcomes are related. The contextual
referencing, therefore, is of upmost importance to the success and
appropriation of each brief. I intend to constantly refer back to my original
contexts and appropriately involve them in my design progression. The context
that houses each brief will inform the outcomes I produce, and the
styles/themes involved.
I have made a conscious effort to improve my organisation
this year and have begun by starting a new notebook (fully titled and dated,
with clear subject separation), making a folder with brief by brief/module by
module separation so all work can be appropriately filed and easily accessed.
My blog will act as a digital record of everything I do and will include visual
aids and proofs. I will take lots of photos and scan all physical work so there
is a secure record of things. The evaluative aspect of the module will take the
form of on-going and end of brief evaluation. I will take time to revise the
things I have done and critically evaluate their successes/failures in order to
inform the future progression of the brief.
